About Me and My Practice
Hello, and welcome. I am so glad you are here today and I’m excited to meet you and get to know you better; I truly hope I can be of help to you. Everybody needs encouragement and support sometimes- life can be hard!
My name is Alysia (Kristen Alysia Duemler / Alysia Tenenboim) and this is a safe space for you to explore challenges you’ve been facing in your life or within yourself in collaboration with me, a psychotherapist trained at Adler University in Vancouver, Canada (Master of Counselling Psychology: School and Youth Concentration, 2025) with a Bachelor’s in Psychology from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. I won’t judge you, and within certain limitations, which we will discuss before or during our first session, everything you’d like to share with me will stay with me and not be told to anyone else: your secrets will be safe with me. I live here in beautiful Vancouver and am originally from sunny Austin. I have been a certified meditation instructor for nearly a decade. I’ve been practicing yoga and mindfulness since I was 13 years old. I decided to become a counselor because when I was a struggling teenager, one tremendously helped me, so I felt firsthand how powerful therapy can be, and thought what a special and impactful thing it would be to uplift others through counseling. I am nearly fluent in Spanish and have some Hebrew proficiency.
Each summer, I attend an intensive international Adlerian psychotherapy training through the International Committee for Adlerian Summer Schools and Institutes in a different location with students and professionals from all over the world to immerse myself in greater learning to better assist you. My passion is to cooperate with you in our counseling sessions to meet your short-term and long-term goals for feeling your best self and living your best life within realistic expectations. I am able to work with individuals of all ages, as well as couples and families. I have extra training for adolescents and young adults ages 13-25. Whether you’re feeling pretty good about yourself and your life, or you’re in significant distress, here is a good place to start. Things can get better, especially if you’re willing to put in some hard work. My approach combines deep empathy, Adlerian Therapy (Individual Psychology), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), mindfulness and meditation. We can try any of these and I can help you gain new skills and resilience according to your goals and needs, especially if you are motivated to grow. We do not have to talk about or do anything unless you want to. Therapy can even, sometimes, be fun!
Feel free to ask me any questions by email at alysiatenenboim@gmail.com and/or to fill out the online consultation form for a free consult to see if you’d like to start with me. I work exclusively online (Zoom sessions) or by phone call- video on or off according to your preference. Each session is 50 minutes or 1 hour. The sessions are based on a sliding scale (pay what you can- minimum $50 per 1 session, maximum $200) payable via e-transfer or PayPal, to make sure both of us have food on the table. Thank you for stopping by and God bless you!

"I had tried therapy with a different therapist but they didn't challenge me on what I was doing that wasn't conducive to my own healing and growth. Alysia has successfully helped me work through grief and loss, trauma, and anxiety. When I first started seeing her, it was difficult for me to get out of bed in the morning, and going out of my apartment was a big accomplishment. Now, 4 months later, I believe in myself, and have been able to go out to meet with friends, apply for jobs, and work out. I feel much lighter, and many of my issues have been resolved. Sometimes I still have hard days, and she let me know that therapy is not a magic pill. But, I have a new-found confidence, that I can get through the thick and the thin."

"When I started therapy, I was dealing with a shift in my professional life. I was absolutely burnt out from my job and I felt like I lacked the confidence / vision to determine what to do with the rest of my life. I felt extremely anxious most of the time about most things.Therapy with Alysia has helped me tremendously, she’s taught me techniques that have really helped calm my anxiety, find my focus, and regain my confidence in myself. Alysia is extremely competent, understanding and I’d recommend therapy with Alysia to anyone who asks, it’s been a huge life-changer!"

"Never having had therapy before, I didn't know what to except, but I am so glad that Alysia is my first therapist! She is patient, caring, thoughtful, and, at the same time, not afraid to gently mention my part in my own mess that I maybe had not considered. I am always excited for our sessions. It will be a sad day when therapy with her will finally end, on the one hand, but on the other hand, it'll mean that I can manage on my own. I was having a hard time because my parents got a divorce and I felt a lot of stress from school. Today, I feel much happier and that I can accept the hard things in my life while focusing on the good and on what I can control. I recommend counselling with Alysia to anybody."
